'The Newsroom' Season 3 Spoilers: Episode 2 Synopsis Released; What Will Happen In 'Run'? [VIDEO]
Season 2 of “The Newsroom” may have ended on a happy note, but it did not take long for things to come crashing down again in the Season 3 premiere of the HBO series. In episode 1 of the show’s final six, Will (Jeff Daniels) found out that “News Night” was finishing fourth in the ratings (as a result of some ethical patience in covering the Boston Marathon bombing), ACN was the target of a hostile corporate takeover and Neal (Dev Patel) might have just made himself a conspirator to espionage. The synopsis for episode 2, “Run,” reveals that things are not going to get any easier for Will and the rest of ACN.
According to the episode 2 synopsis, ACN’s lawyer Rebecca Halliday (Marcia Gay Harden), whom fans will remember well from the Genoa controversy in Season 2, will return to the show to help bail Neal out of trouble. Along with Will, she will try to protect the reporter from the fallout over the leak of government documents he received about the cause of the riots in Kundu (a fictional African nation). The promo reveals, however, that because Neal unwittingly induced his anonymous source to commit espionage by requesting more classified documents, Rebecca is worried that Neal could be held by the FBI until he reveals his source.
Meanwhile, Charlie (Sam Waterston), Reese (Chris Messina) and Leona (Jane Fonda) will not be trying to save just an ACN reporter but ACN itself. When Reese’s cousins, Blair (Kat Dennings of “2 Broke Girls”) and Randy Lansing (Chris Smith), show up to attempt to force a buyout of the company, Leona (making her return to the series after being absent in episode 1) confronts them with the fierce moxie fans have come to expect from the character.

So, barely months removed from the Genoa crisis that nearly brought ACN down, the station is in more trouble than ever. Will Rebecca be able to protect Neal? And can Leona, Charlie and Reese save the company? Fans will have to tune in next week to find out. “The Newsroom” airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
