Neymar’s Return To Barcelona Looks Impossible After PSG’s Latest Condition Involving $196M In Cash
KEY POINTS
- PSG have asked Barca to pay $196m in cash for Neymar's transfer deal
- Barca is not in the financial position to adhere to PSG's new demands
- Neymar has won three straight Ligue 1 titles with PSG
Neymar’s current club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), have asked FC Barcelona to pay an enormous amount of $196 million in cash for the Brazilian star’s deal this summer window.
Even before the coronavirus pandemic struck this world, earlier this year, Barcelona had made up their mind to bring Neymar back to Nou Camp this summer along with the signing of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez in a bid to become one of the lethal attacks in Europe once again.
While the Catalans have been working well toward Martinez’s transfer, things have never looked easy in Neymar’s case. Earlier, it was known that Barcelona were planning to offer PSG a few French players such as Antoine Griezmann, Samuel Umtiti, or Ousmane Dembele and a lower fee as a part of Neymar’s deal.
According to Spain’s The Sport, the Ligue 1 champions have made it crystal clear that they are not interested in any of the current players in the Barcelona squad and if the Catalans want to sign Neymar, they will have to pay $196m in cash, a move from PSG that shows they are trying to chase away the Spanish giants. No club can afford $196m, let alone paying in cash, at present due to the financial impact of the pandemic.
Earlier, Neymar’s agent Wagner Ribeiro had also said he does not see his client moving back to Barcelona this summer.
Neymar, who joined PSG for a world-record fee of $241 million ahead of the 2017-18 season, has been an asset for the French side scoring 69 goals in 80 appearances across all competitions and has won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles. Even though he has tasted success at PSG, the Brazilain has been wanting to return to Spain.
While he was still in his first season in Paris, reports had emerged that Neymar found the standard of the league poor and wanted to return to La Liga’s Barcelona.
Moreover, on every given chance, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has admitted that he wants Neymar back at Nou Camp. The Barca captain has said his side cannot win the Champions League with the current set of players and that is one of the primary reasons why Messi has been desperate to have Neymar back to the Catalan side.
