NFC Championship Game 2012: 49ers Hit First With Contested 73-Yard Touchdown Pass to Vernon Davis
The 49ers hit the Giants first in the NFC Championship Game 2012 as Vernon Davis caught a 73-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis on a contested play that ended up going in the 49ers' favor.
The 73-yard touchdown completion gets the 49ers out to a great start, just shortly after the Giants almost lost control of the football when quarterback Eli Manning was stripped. The ball was recovered for a major loss, and after the punt the 49ers hit back quickly with the long touchdown pass to Vernon Davis.
The touchdown looked like it may get overturned when the officials decided to review a step that looked like Davis may have made over the sideline, but the officials ruled the evidence that he may have stepped out of bounds was not convincing enough to overrule the touchdown call made on the field.
The game is one of the most anticipated of the year, as whoever wins the matchup at Candlestick Park in San Francisco will face the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
New England beat the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 earlier Sunday at home in New England during the AFC Championship, meaning Tom Brady will return to the Super Bowl this year.
If the Giants win today, the Super Bowl will be a replay of the 2008 contest in which the cinderella Giants shocked the world by beating the undefeated Giants for the championship.
