NFL: Baker Mayfield Impresses 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin After Indians Game Beer Stunt
WWE icon "Stone Cold" Steve Austin expressed his admiration towards NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield after the latter chugged a beer in the middle of a Cleveland Indians game.
Cleveland Browns QB Mayfield showed up to the Indians game on Saturday and chugged a can of beer upon noticing that the camera captured him in the crowd. Some believe that Mayfield’s display puts the NFL to shame, but there are some sports personalities who viewed the act in a much more positive way.
Beer-drinking WWE superstar Steve Austin, aka “Stone Cold,” recently made a special appearance on ESPN’s “First Take” where he shared his thoughts on the matter. Austin, who evidently cannot hold his excitement over the young quarterback, said that he and Cleveland city didn’t just like Mayfield -- they “love” him.
“That city loves that kid! We love him!” Austin said.
Austin was then asked to share some of his thoughts about Mayfield after meeting him personally. Based on Austin’s response, the WWE icon admires Mayfield’s confidence, saying the 24-year-old football player is “way more advanced” than he was when he was 24.
“Confident kid, very composed, I mean he’s 24 years old, when I look back at some of the things that I was doing, saying, thinking when I was 24, he’s way, way more advanced than I am,” Austin admitted.
The 54-year-old wrestling star also detailed the specific reasons why he believes that Mayfield is such an extraordinary athlete. “Just his energy, the way his charisma, the way he comes off (in) that level of confidence. He’s never been a plan A, he always had to work. When someone went down, he stepped in, and no one can knock him off,” Austin pointed out.
Another athlete seemed pleased with Mayfield’s beer stunt. Former NFL defensive Marcellus Wiley Sr. pointed out on ESPN’s “Speak For Yourself” that what Mayfield has done during the Indians game is a different story compared to the issues he has been dealing with the Browns back in NFL.
In addition, Wiley was convinced that the Indians got pumped up by Mayfield’s gesture during the game. In fact, Wiley even said that Mayfield brought “energy” to the team which led them to secure five runs just moments after the quarterback chugged his beer.
“The Cleveland Indians were tied 2-2 in that game, Baker chugs the beer, which I’ve never seen before, he bit the beer! But five runs were scored just in that moment because of the energy,” Wiley explained.
