NFL Coaching Rumors: Saints, Giants, Dolphins Continue Search As New Candidates Emerge

The Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos have reportedly ended their head coaching searches, decreasing the number of vacancies in the NFL. That number could get even smaller within the next few days as the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints continue to conduct interviews.

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll seems likely to land a head coaching job for the 2022 season and has been linked to the Giants and Dolphins. The 46-year-old has served as an offensive coordinator for four NFL teams and was the New England Patriots tight ends coach under Bill Belichick from 2013 to 2016.

With Joe Schoen leaving the Bills to become the Giants general manager, it would make sense for New York to offer Daboll the job. The New York Daily News reported that there is mutual interest between the Dolphins and Daboll, who was Tua Tagovailoa’s offensive coordinator at Alabama.

If Daboll doesn’t go to Miami, the Dolphins could end up with a young offensive coach. Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel are expected to get second interviews with the Dolphins, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham are also candidates for the Giants. Former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores might be the Giants’ most likely option if Daboll doesn’t get the job.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was interviewed by the Giants but is reportedly staying put.

Because Sean Payton decided just this week to step away from coaching, the Saints are a bit behind in the coaching carousel. New Orleans could stay in-house and promote defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who has been with the team since 2015.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich are candidates in New Orleans, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. Leftwich could soon be hired to become the next Jacksonville Jaguars head coach.

The Saints have finished with a winning record in five straight seasons.
