NFL Draft News:Projected Top-10 Pick To Meet Detroit Lions This Week
KEY POINTS
- The Detroit Lions will meet top prospect Kyle Hamilton sometime this week
- Hamilton has already visited four interested teams
- Hamilton could be drafted early because of his best assets
One of the top prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft will be visiting his fifth team later this week.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton will be sitting down with the top officials of the Detroit Lions, who own the rights to the No. 2 overall pick in the draft.
Detroit has already brought in several top defensive players thus far. That includes Aidan Hutchinson, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Nakobe Dean, Jermaine Johnson, Ahmad Gardner, Derek Stingley and Travon Walker.
As far as Hamilton is concerned, some pundits question him being a top-tier prospect.
The 21-year-old ran a 4.59 in the 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine, the second-slowest among the 15 safeties.
He followed it up by registering a 4.70 at Notre Dame’s Pro Day.
However, Hamilton fared well in other areas. He had a 38-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 11-inch broad jump.
Furthermore, it should be noted that in his last season with the Fighting irish, the consensus All-American played only seven games due to a right knee injury.
With his sights set on the 2022 NFL Draft, he opted not to risk it at the Fiesta Bowl.
Given those facts, critics are divided on how high or low Hamilton will go in the 2022 NFL Draft.
One NFL scout sees him as one of the players who would be taken off the board early.
In the scouting report detailed on SI.com, Hamilton has the height, weight, and speed that would endear him to NFL teams.
Moreover, he is someone who plays with excellent tempo and is no stranger to physicality.
Among the downsides seen on his part include issues in the open field such as bad or missed tackles.
Regardless of the facets that he needs to work on, Hamilton has everything that clubs are looking for in a durable safety on the field.
