The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers all had a head coaching vacancy within hours of the conclusion of the 2019 regular season. The Dallas Cowboys have yet to officially announce that Jason Garrett won’t return in 2020, but it’s clear that the team will also have a new head coach next year.

A few names have been linked to every opening and are likely to land one of the available jobs. Former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy and current New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels are both given a very good chance to be a head coach somewhere when the 2020 season kicks off.

McCarthy is the betting favorite to be the next head coach of the Giants and Panthers. McDaniels has the best odds to land the Cowboys’ job. The two coaches are co-favorites in the Browns’ head-coaching search.

Cleveland and New York have both interviewed McCarthy this week. Because Carolina fired Ron Rivera last month, the Panthers had the chance to speak with McCarthy during the season.

All three teams have requested the opportunity to interview McDaniels. The 43-year-old isn’t allowed to meet with anyone this week because New England is set to host the Tennessee Titans in a wild-card game. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McDaniels plans to be interviewed on Jan. 10, before the divisional playoffs.

Baylor’s Matt Rhule could probably become an NFL head coach if he wants to jump to the pros. It’s still unknown if he will decide to leave college football.

Rhule is considered to be the Giants’ top choice. He has turned down the chance to interview with the Browns. Rhule reportedly could’ve been the New York Jets head coach a year ago if the two sides came to an agreement on his coaching staff.

Several college coaches are expected to be candidates for the Cowboys’ job. Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley and former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer have been speculated as potential Dallas hires for months.

Both coaches have also been rumored to be potential candidates for the Browns.

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski are two of the most sought-after NFL assistants.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy might end up interviewing for most, if not all, of the openings. Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman and Ravens defensive coordinator Don Martindale are expected to get interviews, as well.
