Some major names will be sidelined due to injuries ahead of Sunday's Week 14 schedule.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is the status of New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who was downgraded Saturday to "out" with a bruised quad and won't make the trip to Washington in a mostly meaningless game for the Giants against the Redskins at FedEx Field. Giants head coach Pat Shurmur had said on Friday that he believed Beckham would play.

Melvin Gordon's status is more consequential. The Los Angeles Chargers — still in contention to win the AFC West and facing the Cincinnati Bengals — will once again be without their star running back, who is still nursing a knee injury. Without Gordon in Week 13, the Chargers were still able to pull off a big win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers, meanwhile, will be without running back James Conner, who is out with an ankle injury he suffered against the Chargers. It is unclear if Conner, who has filled in admirably for Le'Veon Bell, has an ankle sprain or a high-ankle sprain.

The Tampa Buccaneers will once again be without deep-threat wide receiver DeSean Jackson, who is sidelined with a thumb injury. The Bucs are 5-7 and look like longshots to earn a playoff berth.

But it's not all bad news on the injury front. The Chicago Bears welcome back second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who was out for two weeks with a shoulder injury. The Bears have an important matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night in Chicago.

The New York Jets will also have their starting quarterback available Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, as rookie Sam Darnold returns from a three-game absence after suffering a foot injury. Running back Isaiah Crowell (toe) was listed as questionable but is expected to play, according to ESPN.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (hip) practiced Friday but is listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. It's possible Flacco will be available and serve as Lamar Jackson's backup. Chiefs' safety Eric Berry (heel) is not expected to play.

In a Twitter posting late Saturday night, ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter provided a long list of notable players who will be out in Week 14.
