  • Jameis Winston is the latest addition to the roster of the New Orleans Saints
  • It is reported that Winston turned down larger offers to play with the Saints
  • Learning under Drew Brees has played a factor in his decision

The offseason continues for the NFL with teams making additional moves for their squads. The latest deal involves former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston turning down bigger offers to play for the New Orleans Saints.

It has been a productive few days for the New Orleans Saints with their draft haul and new additions. Fresh from a strong 13-3 record in the 2019 season, the Saints are looking to even push further deeper in the playoffs. The Saints were able to add the six-foot-four All-Big Ten Second-team center in Cesar Ruiz as the 24th overall pick.

To add to these, the Saints were also productive in securing signal-caller Taysom Hill to a two-year deal worth $16.3 million. The quarterback position of the Saints has further improved with the signing of Winston to the team. It is speculated that Winston took refused larger sums of money for the opportunity to play and learn with Drew Brees.

As reported by NFL’s insider Ian Rapoport, Winston emphasized his growth as a player in his decision.

“As the #Saints and FA QB Jameis Winston close in on a 1-year deal, worth noting Winston turned down a more lucrative offer elsewhere to learn from some of the best. The former #Bucs starter put the emphasis on his future in a smart choice,” Rapoport tweeted.

While it hasn’t been revealed on who offered these deals to Winston, the chance to learn under the wings of a quarterback of Brees caliber is enough to lure the 2015 first overall pick to the Saints.

There is no question that Brees is one of the best of all time to ever suit up in the NFL. The 13-time Pro Bowler has proven himself to be one of the more cerebral quarterbacks in the current era of football. As a former second-round pick, Brees has been able to put up an impressive career with a Super Bowl MVP in 2010 as part of his illustrious resume.

The veteran presence of Brees will take a huge effect on the learning of the Winston and will play a huge role in the Saint’s quest for another Super Bowl title.
