KEY POINTS

  • Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are set to headline the "Best Game of 2020" featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens
  • NFL legend Warren Moon says he would pick Mahomes over Jackson if he were to start a franchise
  • The Ravens are -3.5-point favorites against the Chiefs during the Monday Night Football clash

Patrick Mahomes would be the better pick over Lamar Jackson for now, according to NFL legend Warren Moon.

Ahead of the highly-anticipated Monday Night Football clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens, Moon said Mahomes got the edge simply because the Chiefs quarterback is the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

"I would probably go with Patrick Mahomes right now because he's the reigning Super Bowl champ," Moon told TMZ Sports when asked who among the two top quarterbacks would he pick if he were to start a franchise.

"He's the reigning Super Bowl MVP and he was the MVP the year before, so he would probably be the guy that I would go with right now."

However, the Pro Football Hall of Famer said it’s a close call, admitting that with the rise of these young QBs in the league, one could not go wrong.

"I would tell you what," Moon said before adding, "I wouldn't kick (Jackson and Russell Wilson) out of bed either!"

The Ravens hosting the Chiefs on Monday could go down as the best game of the season with the Mahomes vs. Jackson showdown highlighting Week 3’s blockbuster list that will feature face-offs between top-tier quarterbacks in the league.

Not only will this be a match between two undefeated teams, but it will also be the first time in NFL history that two former MVPs who are 25 years or younger will go head to head, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN).

But the 23-year-old Jackson downplayed the hype, saying the match against Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs is “just like any other game.”

"I don't have to focus on Mahomes," Jackson said in a statement issued last week. "I got to focus on their defense. I got (to) focus on scoring. I got to focus on my job and making my offense do our thing."

While the former Louisville standout opted to stay mum on the personal battle, Mahomes spoke a different tone as he raved about his rival and his exploits on the field.

"He can make all the throws; he can run with the ball; he can really do it all. And so it's always fun to watch guys like that -- that work hard, put in the work, and they're able to go out there and have success on the field,” the 2018 MVP said.

The Ravens are heading to match as -3.5-point favorites, based on DraftKings Line. But the Chiefs are not to be counted out, according to Bleacher Report’s NFL correspondent Brent Sobleski, who cited Kansas City’s knack for defying the odds in claiming that “there's no reason whatsoever to bet against Patrick Mahomes and Co.”
