Los Angeles Rams legend Eric Dickerson gave a thumbs down on the team’s newly released uniforms. Unveiled on Wednesday, the fresh threads earned the criticism of the 59-year-old, who described the design as being “soft” for the sport.
Dickerson brought out a long list of flaws as he addressed the Rams’ new look on AM570 Sports, per Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports.
“I’ll say this, the colors are not bad,” the six-time Pro Bowler said. “If you wanna change the colors, make them look brighter. The uniform’s not bad.”
As he went into the specifics, Dickerson continued to throw distinctive brickbats at the style.
“I just don’t like the stripe around the sleeve. It’s not big enough. It almost looks like a lightning bolt, like the Chargers’ uniform. I don’t like the stripe down the pants,” he added.
“I wish it was bigger. And the horn, man, it’s horrible. I just feel like they really took away from the Rams’ uniform. And it looks almost like the Chargers’ logo. It looks like two bananas.
“This is football. This ain’t nothing to do with surfing,” he added. “This ain’t nothing to do with waves. This is football. This is a man’s sport. And to me, it just looks soft. It don’t look like football. It don’t look hard.”
The Rams were notably on the receiving end of a backlash when the team, through Dickerson as the vice president of business development, initially teased its fans with the makeover look early in the offseason.
But despite the efforts to modify the original idea, the L.A. franchise opted to stick with the highly criticized design, much to the dismay of Dickerson.
The legendary running back played with the Rams for five seasons after being selected as the second overall pick in the 1983 NFL Draft. He tallied a total of 7,245 rushing yards and 56 rushing touchdowns during his stint for the Los Angeles-based squad, which include an NFL record-setting 2,105 yards during the 1984 season.
Dickerson was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999 after a well-decorated 11-year career that highlights a Rookie of the Year award in 1983, a five-time First-team All-Pro citation, and the 1986 Offensive Player of the Year title among others.
