  • Marlon Humphrey was asked about the disconnect between their practice sessions and their Week 10 game
  • Ravens coach John Harbaugh responded to Humphrey's statements and agreed with him
  • The Miami Dolphins' cover zero blitz packages surprised the Ravens, nabbing the 22-10 win

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh addressed the concerns that cornerback Marlon Humphrey put forward after a shocking loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10.

Humphrey was asked directly after the loss on November 11 whether there was a disconnect in what they do during practice and on the field, to which the cornerback affirmed that there was.

Speaking to the media during the press conference last Monday, November 15, Harbaugh posited that the quick turnaround between their game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9 and the Dolphins contributed to the disastrous result.

“It was a short week, [and] we played 99 plays on offense four [or] five days before that. I think our guys might have been a little mentally tired, but we're never going to step up and say that's the reason for it. We just didn't do a good job of executing the game plan, and the game plan wasn't good enough to tackle what we were going against,” Harbaugh glumly stated.

The longtime Ravens coach also mentioned that the team simply had a myriad of small mistakes that contributed to the loss and did not single out any single person as it was a team effort.

They very clearly were not ready for the surprise defensive packages that the Dolphins trotted out in their matchup.

It was an ugly game for both teams right from the start, but it was the Ravens' offense that suffered the most.

Their usual tactic of passing the ball just short of the down marker then going on a run did not work as the Dolphins had that game plan well scouted.

The Dolphins put forth a masterclass on defensive pressure with multiple zero blitz packages, where the majority of the secondary will join in on the linebackers’ approach as they try to force the opposing quarterback into making terrible throws.

It worked to perfection as the Ravens were held to just 10 points and limited to just 304 yards of offense and two turnovers, something that has been a bit of a pattern in their losses this season.

When asked about making adjustments to the zero blitz coverage, Harbaugh simply remarked that the players just have to step up and be ready for it.

“We have great ideas against it. Schematically, there is nobody who has better ideas against anything than we do. Certainly, Cover Zero, we have some great answers for it that are going to give people a lot of problems. We just have to welcome the next time they run it,” he stated.

The Ravens are back in action on Sunday, November 21 against the 3-6 Chicago Bears for Week 11 in what they hope to be a massive bounce-back game.
