NFL News: Ravens Head Coach Glumly Addresses Losing All-Pro Cornerback

The Baltimore Ravens received another massive blow to their Super Bowl chances this year after losing cornerback Marlon Humphrey for the season in their one-point loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 13.

Head coach John Harbaugh spoke with the media on the afternoon of Monday, December 6 to address the situation and he had almost no words to describe the situation within their locker room.

“I don't have the gauge on that. We'd prefer to have him [Marlon Humphrey], for sure, but we'll go on with the guys we have. We have really good players who can step in and play. We'll be ready to go,” Harbaugh said.

Against the Steelers, Humphrey came late on a challenge on wide receiver Diontae Johnson and his right arm snapped against his counterpart's shoulder pads, leading to the injury.

The injury prompted Harbaugh to go for the two-point conversion as the Ravens could not afford to risk going into overtime with a depleted secondary but failed to convert as quarterback Lamar Jackson threw the ball just past tight end Mark Andrews' reach.

The 2019 All-Pro cornerback was holding down the cornerback position for much of this season since Marcus Peters went down during training camp.

Now, the Ravens are severely lacking depth in the position.

Losing Peters and Humphrey for the season now leaves the Ravens with just three cornerbacks: Anthony Averett, Jimmy Smith and Chris Westry.

Harbaugh was then asked about how they plan on responding to losing Humphrey.

“We'll work through the personnel. There are personnel groups, who you put where, what coverages, what personnel groups. We have guys, [and] we'll work through that during the course of the week. Some of it is who you play [and] what the matchups are, we'll figure all of that out,” Harbaugh stated.

The fact that the Ravens are at eight wins, four losses this deep into the season is extremely surprising as they have been battling injuries this season, including losing their entire running back group even before Week 1.

The Ravens absorbed their fourth loss of the season but remain as the top dogs in the AFC North.

Now more than ever do the Ravens need to come together as a team and hope that their young players are up for the challenge when they visit division rivals Cleveland Browns on Sunday, December 12 for Week 14.
