  • Broncos coach Nathaniel Heckett wants to have Aaron Rodgers on the team

  • Rodgers and the Packers failed to get past the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round

The Denver Broncos are looking to swing for the fences in acquiring 2021-22 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers following the hiring of new head coach Nathaniel Hackett.

Brendan Sugrue of USA Today reported earlier this week that Hackett is “pushing hard to make a trade” for Rodgers this offseason to inject the Broncos offense with some pedigree in the quarterback position.

Hackett and Rodgers’ connection goes back to January 2019 when the Packers brought in Hackett as their offensive coordinator under head coach Matt LaFleur.

Their partnership would blossom into the Packers being the NFL’s best offensive team in the 2020-21 season, scoring 48 touchdowns through the air and 16 on the ground.

It has come to the point that league insiders believe that the Broncos can pry away Rodgers from the only franchise that he has ever known ahead of the start of the new league year set to begin on March 16.

“I’ve got some decisions to make for sure. I’m [going to] enjoy the next couple weeks. And, you know, I’ve had good conversations with Green Bay and I’ll, you know, do some contemplating and then make a decision here pretty quick,” said Rodgers about his future as quoted by Pro Football Talk.

The Broncos have seemingly been preparing to tempt Rodgers in moving to Denver after hiring Hackett, former Packers tight ends coach Justin Outten, ex-teammate Ben Steele and then-Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers.

Rodgers leaving Green Bay would definitely shake up the NFL landscape as the Packers were extremely close to making it to the NFC Championship, losing by just three points to the San Francisco 49ers after kicker Robbie Gould scored the game-winning field goal with 3:20 to spare in Divisional Round.

After all, there is an incentive for Rodgers to leave Green Bay.

The Packers traded up in the 2020 NFL draft to select highly-touted quarterback Jordan Love with the 26th pick, a move that surprised many analysts as they already had Rodgers onboard.

This led to rumors of a growing rift between the franchise and their longtime quarterback, to the point that it was rumored that Rodgers would consider retiring just to spite the organization.

The 39-year-old's future will be put under the microscope in the coming days as a move to Denver would be a massive win for the Broncos, who finished with a record of 7-10 with Teddy Bridgewater playing under center.
