NFL Rumors: Antonio Brown To 49ers? Richard Sherman Gives His Opinion On Steelers WR Coming To SF
As the NFL’s final four teams get ready for conference championship Sunday, the rumor mill surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is spinning. The star receiver is reportedly on the outs in Pittsburgh, and rumors suggest he wants to play for the San Francisco 49ers.
What does 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman think about this? In a brief interview with TMZ Sports, Sherman addressed the rumors, offering support for whatever Brown ends up doing, but falling short of fully endorsing the idea of Brown in San Francisco.
"Good luck to him," Sherman told TMZ. “Go wherever makes you happy."
Sherman just finished his first year with the 49ers after beginning his career with the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers had a disappointing and injury-filled season, finishing 4-12 after starting three different quarterbacks. If quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is healthy and they manage to land Brown, they will likely be trendy picks to make the playoffs next year.
“So far, so good,” Sherman said of his first year in the Bay Area.
Brown makes a great deal of sense in San Francisco. Head coach Kyle Shanahan does not have much to work with in terms of receiving talent outside of tight end George Kittle, and the 49ers have plenty of cap space and draft capital to work with. The price for Brown is not expected to be huge.
Former 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice maintains contact with Brown, and said the Steelers wideout desire to play in San Francisco in an interview last week. According to oddsmakers, the 49ers are the betting favorites to land Brown in a trade.
Brown finished the 2018 season 104 catches for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has caught 100 or more passes for the past six seasons.
