Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield may not be with the team once the 2022-23 season begins after posting a cryptic post on his Facebook account.

Opening up his letter to Browns fans by confirming that there was no hidden meaning in it, Mayfield went on to thank the fans for being so welcoming to his family, but a part of it did standout.

“I have no clue what happens next, which is the meaning behind the silence I have had during the duration of this process. I can only control what I can, which is trusting God’s plan throughout this process,” Mayfield wrote.

This understandably led fans to hypothesizing what this means for Mayfield’s future with the Browns organization as these words seem to be filled with uncertainty on his end.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that the Browns front office would be meeting with embattled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson on Tuesday, March 15 and Mayfield releasing his letter on the same day is curious timing at the very least.

It is worth noting that the Browns had exercised their fifth-year option on Mayfield in April of last year, which ensures they retain his services for the 2022-23 season.

However, there are no reports yet as to Mayfield being given a contract extension or even an offer from the Browns which further puts his future into question.

The Browns could be doing one of two things at this juncture: putting together a trade for Watson that involves Mayfield or simply looking into Watson’s situation.

Watson has an arguably higher talent-floor than that of Mayfield, but the Browns risking to upset their star quarterback by having an interview with Watson is a move that may cause tension between the franchise and Mayfield.

Adding Watson to the Browns ensures that they become a much more competitive team next season compared to Mayfield, but it remains to be seen how his civil proceedings will turn out as explained by the Houston Chronicle.

Time will only tell what happens in Cleveland and Mayfield has made it clear that his heart is with the franchise.
