NFL Rumors: Burrow Sounds Off, Bengals May Need To Trade Now Or After Draft
KEY POINTS
- Burrow wants to play for a winner
- Bengals could explore other NFL Draft hopefuls
- Dolphins could come knocking at Bengals door
Joe Burrow of LSU is expected to be the top selection at the 2020 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. And while most see that as a foregone conclusion, there are teams like the Miami Dolphins still praying to get the 23-year-old quarterback. Those prayers may have been answered.
Aware that he could be the top pick of the 2020 NFL Draft Class, it appears the one-time National Champion wants to make sure he is on a team committed to winning. On the "Dan Patrick Show," Burrow said he wants to go no. 1 but also join an organization committed to winning.
If that is to be factored in, several questions now come into the picture. For one, the Bengals have not been known to invest heavily in making a run for the Super Bowl. Yahoo Sports noted how team owner Mike Brown doesn't usually go the extra mile. In fact, they have the smallest scouting staff in the NFL.
As far as Burrow's statement is concerned, there are two sides to consider. One is that he is not looking forward to being a Bengal. Second, he may be sending a message across on his expectations in the event he is drafted. What happens from here will be interesting.
Barring any changes, the Bengals are likely to pick Burrow. But what happens after that? Would they trade the top prospect or keep him in the mix? It is no secret that teams like the Miami Dolphins want the Heisman Trophy winner so a deal could ensue. However, the Bengals will want something lucrative to make it all work.
If not, Cincinnati could trade the rights to the top pick as early as now. Should there be no takers, going for another player could make sense. Aside from Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert or even Jacob Eason. If not a QB, they could consider Chase Young or Isaiah Simmons instead.
But if they want to make the most out of it, a logical direction is to try and talk to the Dolphins on a possible deal. In a previous post, Dolphins team owner Stephen Ross bared how he badly wants Burrow in Miami. At the time, it seemed improbable. But if Burrow's cryptic message is to be heard, the Bengals may want to explore options.
