  • Mathieu believes Burrow will be happy to play for Bengals
  • Burrow could be traded by Bengals
  • Bengals not seen as team committed to winning Super Bowl

Joe Burrow of LSU is the hands-down choice to be selected as the top pick at the 2020 NFL Draft this April. Unfortunately, there is the growing belief that the 23-year-old quarterback may not be fully committed to playing for the Cincinnati Bengals since he wants to be on a team committed to winning.

However, someone known to be close to Burrow believes otherwise. Safety Tyrann Mathieu of the Kansas City Chiefs believes that the Heisman Trophy winner will happily play for the team once he is officially made the top pick of the 2020 NFL Draft on Apr. 23, TMZ reported.

"Me just knowing him for the last couple years," the Honey Badger said to TMZ Sports. "He's super competitive ... he knows he can be the guy."

The pitch was made by Mathieu despite several personalities believing he may be disappointed about winning a Super Bowl with the Bengals. Some feel he could follow the same steps made by Eli Manning back in 2004. After being selected by the San Diego Chargers, Manning was eventually shipped to the New York Giants. The 27-year-old feels that the case will be different with Burrow.

"I think he'll have a great opportunity to kind of help, hopefully, Cincinnati changes things around as a franchise," Mathieu said.

In a previous post, Burrow sounded off and said that while he wants to be picked at no. 1, he also wants to go to a great organization committed to winning. Obviously, Burrow wants a taste of winning the Super Bowl but several parties question the Bengals for going that route.

One of them is ex-Bengal Carson Palmer. In an interview with CBS Sports, the former Heisman Trophy winner seemed to advise Burrow that he does not see Cincinnati wanting to win a Super Bowl.

“That’s why I had to leave. I never felt they were committed to winning a Super Bowl,” Carson said in a tweet by Damon Amendolara.

At this point, anything can happen in April, including a potential trade. Several teams are interested in Burrow, particularly the Miami Dolphins. A potential trade could happen on before, during or after NFL Draft day - assuming the Bengals do have intentions to deal the 23-year-old away.
