NFL Rumors: Cleveland Browns Ready To Pay Half Of Unhappy QB's Salary

Baker Mayfield's fate is still in limbo, with most speculating that he is unlikely to stick with the Cleveland Browns.

There are several teams interested in the 27-year-old play-caller, one of which is the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers currently have Sam Darnold as their quarterback, and there are also talks that Cam Newton could be coming on board.

Regardless, the point is that the Panthers need a regular quarterback with a proven track record. Hence, Mayfield's name has popped up as a logical target.

But seeing Mayfield head to Carolina will depend on the money matters on the table.

The 2017 Heisman Trophy winner is due $18.9 million this coming season--the final year of his contract.

Carolina would be doing the Browns a big favor by taking in the Texas native. But that may depend only on how much money the Browns are willing to take from Mayfield’s salary.

According to Daniel Chavkin of the Sports Illustrated, the Browns are willing to take in about half of Mayfield's salary. That would roughly be between $9 to $10 million.

The fact that Cleveland is ready to shoulder roughly half of his pay for the coming NFL season is proof that the Browns are ready to part ways with the former Oklahoma Sooner.
