Colin Kaepernick is making sure that he is in good shape, hoping that the phone rings for a potential NFL stint. And with a lot of teams dealing with quarterback woes, the former San Francisco 49er seems pretty aware that a call-up can happen anytime soon.

In a previous article, it was reported that Kaepernick showed off his impressive physique and remains hopeful of resuming his NFL career. At 31-years-old, pundits feel that the two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year can be of good use to any team looking for a quarterback. He was last seen in the NFL way back in 2016. This was about the same time the Kap had started the civil rights activism tied up to the shooting of a black man named Mario Woods.

And it appears Kaepernick is serious about making sure he is in shape. He was recently spotted heading to a gym in New York City, and sources revealed that the 36th pick of the 2011 NFL Draft is working out daily, TMZ Sports reported. He is also working out regularly with a quarterback coach, clearly signs he wants another shot at playing pro football.

Focus on Kaepernick is understandable. Andrew Luck announced his retirement recently and most teams are left scampering to figure out their quarterback situation. The Indianapolis Colts are turning to Jacoby Brissett to fill up the void left by Luck and the team may be prowling for a backup.

If not the Colts, the Carolina Panthers could be a sensible landing spot for Kaepernick. With Cam Newton suffering a foot injury in the NFL preseason, Kap could be worth considering according to good friend Eric Reid. However, the final word still falls on the Panthers.

There will be questions on how fit Kaepernick is after years of football inactivity. Should he get the call to show if he can still quarterback, rust is expected to sink in. It may seem like a long shot, with some still believing Kap is being blackballed by some teams. But the reality of it all is that teams need someone who can make an impact.

Kaepernick does have Super Bowl experience and can certainly be an asset. Until the phone rings, the 31-year-old is expected to hit the gym and keep himself in shape until someone gives him a chance at an NFL return.
