The Dallas Cowboys are in a pretty precarious situation, and the person on the hot seat is head coach Jason Garrett. After their 17-9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles recently, there is a growing belief that the 53-year-old's job may be on the line.

Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones prefers to keep everything close to his chest. He has been thrown questions on the future of Garrett. But as far as the 77-year-old is concerned, it would best to stay focused even if the thought of change is running in his mind, USA Today reported.

“I understand how we could come up here against a Philadelphia team that’s talented at several positions … I understand how we could get into a spot to get it to this degree of importance,” he said. “But we shouldn’t have been here. You ought to be able to take a game like this and not let it impact you from being able to get into the tournament. We just needed to come here and play well, and we didn’t.”

Reading between the lines, Jones seemed to hint that the Cowboys could have done better. And while he did not mention it, Dallas' performance this coming Sunday against the Washington Redskins could be a telling factor. He is also expected to closely monitor the Eagles' game against the New York Giants, hoping the former loses. If the odds set are to be believed, it will take a lot for the Giants to prevail over the Eagles.

The Cowboys goals this NFL season have hit a big snag. Their hopes of making the NFC Championship game are slightly afloat even though 50-percent of their chance depends on the Eagles vs. Giants clash. Dallas has not made the Super Bowl since 1995.

Garrett is undoubtedly aware of his job security. Nevertheless, he opts to move forward and hope for the best. Unfortunately, this coming Sunday could very well cap a decade-long tenure -- part of which is not in his hands.

“We all have to own it. I have to own it. The coaching staff has to own it. All the players and staff members have to own it,” said Garrett in an interview with The Athletic.
