The NFL will reportedly cancel its very first game of the 2020 NFL season because of the coronavirus pandemic. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Hall of Fame Game between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers won’t be played.

The two teams had been scheduled to meet on Aug. 6 in Canton, Ohio for the very first exhibition game of the year. The Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony, scheduled for Aug. 8, will be postponed, as well.

Schefter reports that Dallas and Pittsburgh will instead play in the Hall of Fame Game in 2021.

The Hall of Fame Game has been canceled twice in the last decade, once in 2011 because of a lockout and then again 2016 because of poor field conditions.

Most NFL teams are scheduled to report for training camp on July 28. The Cowboys and Steelers were expected to report earlier, but that will likely no longer be the case.

While the NBA, MLB and NHL have been forced to cancel games because of the pandemic, the NFL had not been affected up until now. The league is still hoping to start the 2020 regular season on time.

The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are scheduled to host the Houston Texans on Thursday, Sept. 10 to kick off Week 1. Most of the league is supposed to start the regular season on Sunday, Sept. 13.

Week 1 of the preseason is scheduled to start on Thursday, Aug. 13.
