  • The Packers selected Jordan Love in the 2020 NFL Draft following issues with Aaron Rodgers
  • Pat McAfee recently confirmed that Rodgers will be staying in Green Bay
  • The Packers may offer Love in a trade as they continue to build a contender around Rodgers

The Green Bay Packers and quarterback Aaron Rodgers have reconciled, and drafting Jordan Love may have turned into a major mistake.

Belief across the league was that Rodgers and the only club that he has ever known were headed to a breakup after a tumultuous 2019-20 season.

Moving up in the 2020 NFL draft by trading away their initial first-round pick (30th overall) and a fourth-round pick (136th overall) to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 26th overall pick, and selecting Love was seen by most observers as an end to Rodgers’ time in Green Bay.

Despite Rodgers’ beef with the front office, he turned in two straight MVP-level seasons since then and the extension that was made public on The Pat McAfee Show, including an epic recap of the drama, silenced doubts about him staying.

It is worth noting that despite sources claiming Rodgers’ deal is worth $200 million over the course of four years, former NFL kicker-turned-WWE personality Pat McAfee first confirmed that both sides are working towards a “cap-friendly deal”.

This left Love on the sidelines for the entirety of his rookie season but made some spot appearances and one start throughout the most recently concluded season.

With Rodgers and the Packers mending their relationship, a talented young quarterback like Love will not want to stay on the sidelines any longer.

The 23-year-old will be entering the third year of his four-year, $12.3 million rookie-scale contract, and the Packers may just start receiving trade offers for Love.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter made an appearance on “Get Up” and spoke about the possibility of Love being moved during the offseason.

“I'm not expecting that right now. Look, this could change during the course of the offseason ... Never rule out anything. But I haven't heard any conversation of that sort with that sort of issue gaining traction so far,” Schefter stated as quoted by Bleacher Report.

Outside of Malik Willis and Kenny Pickett, quarterbacks are slim pickings in the upcoming draft and someone like Love who has had experience in the league could be targets for teams that need the upgrade behind center.

Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks, who had just traded nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, can take a chance on Love and put together offers that feature 2022 early-round picks.

Faulting the Packers for trading up to get Love is an exercise in futility because the organization was preparing for what seemed to be inevitable.

But now that Rodgers is back in the fold, the Packers could do one of two things: leverage Love into picks or hope he stays satisfied with a bench role and be their No.1 backup.
