  • The Eagles are expected to come up with another trade proposal ahead of the draft
  • Zach Ertz and the No. 12 pick could be involved in the rumored trade
  • Philly is touted to select a cornerback or a wide receiver at No. 12

With just days away from the 2021 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles may have been busy planning a shocking trade.

In the first round of this year’s draft, the Eagles have already swapped back from No. 6 to No. 12.

However, the said trade might not be the last yet as rumors swirl around the league that the Eagles are “up to something” with their No. 12 pick in the draft, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler via Bleacher Report.

According to Fowler, the Eagles are drawing up a trade scenario which could also involve tight end Zach Ertz.

"I'm told that [Zach Ertz]'s been waiting, bracing for a change, a trade, a release, for the better part of the last two months. It has not happened yet, but Philly sits at 12 overall. It's not an overly deep tight end class after Kyle Pitts. So if they move back, or down, or wherever they want to move in the three days of the draft, perhaps Zach Ertz could be a part of that deal,” Fowler said on SportsCenter Sunday.

“And [Eagles GM] Howie Roseman has been making a lot of calls,” he continued. “The GM of the Eagles has been active. A source told me that Philly's up to something with that [No.] 12 pick. Maybe Ertz will be involved in that."

Over the last two years, the Eagles have not been able to cop the best early-round selections on wide receivers.

Ahead of the draft, Eagles GM Howie Roseman has hinted at the possibility of considering Alabama Crimson Tide WR and Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith, CBS Sports reported.

Aside from Smith, South Carolina Gamecocks cornerback Jaycee Horn is also an early favorite to land the Eagles’ No. 12 pick, per ESPN's NFL Draft Day Predictor.

It can be recalled that the Dolphins acquired the sixth pick from the Eagles along with a fifth-rounder in exchange for the No. 12 pick, a fourth-round pick, and a 2022 first-round pick.

Though some are baffled by Philly’s decision to swap their No. 6 pick, Roseman assured that everything was strategically reviewed and planned.

“The reason we traded back from six to 12 was because flexibility creates opportunity. And for us, having an extra first-round pick, when you go back and look at things that are hard to acquire, that's one of the hardest things to acquire, is a team's first-round pick in the following year and to move back six spots,” Roseman said during a pre-draft press conference.

“But what we really had to do was to sit there and go, 'Who are the 12 players in this draft that we would feel really good about?'” he added. “Are there 12 players in this draft that we feel really good about?"
