The Minnesota Vikings used the franchise tag to make sure Anthony Harris didn’t become a free agent. That doesn’t necessarily mean the safety will remain with the team for the 2020 NFL season.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Harris is a possible trade candidate. Minnesota has reportedly indicated to potential suitors that the 28-year-old could be had for a mid-to-late round draft pick.

If Harris plays on the franchise tag next season, he’ll have a guaranteed one-year salary worth around $11.4 million. Harris has until July 15 to sign a long-term contract.

Five defensive players on the Vikings make at least $10 million per season.

Harris was tied for the NFL-lead in the 2019 season with six interceptions. He had 60 tackles, 11 passes defensed and a fumble recovery in 14 games.

Minnesota ranked 15th against the pass last season. They were 10th in opponents’ passer rating.

The Vikings have already been among the most active teams in the NFL offseason. Minnesota traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs and a seventh-round draft pick to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a first, fifth and sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Vikings also received a 2021 fourth-rounder in the deal.

Kirk Cousins signed a two-year, $66 million extension Monday, keeping him under contract with Minnesota through the 2020 season. He became the fifth-highest paid quarterback in the NFL.

The Vikings finished second in the NFC North with a 10-6 record last season. Minnesota defeated the New Orleans Saints on the road in the wild-card round of the playoffs before losing in the divisional round.
