Nathan Peterman could get a new lease on life as reports say the Oakland Raiders are reportedly interested in the 24-year-old player. Peterman was served his walking papers by the Buffalo Bills last month after performing poorly last season.

According to Ryan Talbot of NYup.com, Peterman has caught the eye of head coach Jon Gruden. Furthermore, he believes that with the building interest on the 24-year-old quarterback, he would not be surprised if the Raiders would sign him up to their practice squad.

That may all depend on how Peterman embraces the new opportunity and improve on his numbers. So far, he has not exactly been impressive in his short NFL career. According to the Bleacher Report, Peterman threw only 548 yards, three touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in eight games. He has completed only 52.3 percent of his passes and has a career quarterback rating of 32.5.

Additionally, he holds a poor QBR of 6.5. This is pretty dismal if compared to the league leader, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, who has 81.1.

Given these not-so-impressive numbers, the sudden interest on him from Gruden and the Raiders raises some questions. Even more puzzling is that several other teams are looking to work him out. Among the teams reportedly considering him are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and the Detroit Lions, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM said.

Peterman is the 171st pick of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Bills, Clutchpoints.com reported. His first game in the pros was not exactly a game to remember considering he threw five interceptions in the first half alone. That unceremoniously set a record for most interceptions thrown with less than 100 career passing attempts.

When he was released last Nov. 14 by the Bills, critics felt that it was the last they would see of Peterman. But if swirling rumors are to be believed, football fans may have not yet seen the last of the 24-year-old player. Still, the question remains: why exactly are many interested in him?

As far as the Raiders are concerned, the only thing certain is that he may be signed as a practice player. Beyond that, nothing more has been said. Hence, there is no certainty that these interests are his ticket back to the big league. Given his performance, he would be lucky to be named as a backup to a starting quarterback.

Unless Peterman is able to show vast improvement, the invite could be nothing more than to give him a chance to show his craft. If he continues to fumble, then perhaps his NFL career is over and done with.
