One recent speculation that has been brewing in the NFL involves the New York Jets’ Marcus Maye future with the team. While it was reported that he’s on the trading block, sources have also denied those rumors spreading.

There have been accounts of Maye being involved in trade discussions per the Daily News. The Jets have had the combination of Maye and star safety Jamal Adams in their trusty defensive lineup. With Adams’ contract negotiations currently in play, the various options for playing around the team roster remain as a factor.

The Jets then selected safety Ashtyn Davis on the second day of the NFL draft. Per head coach Adam Gase, their lineup gives them the versatility they need against their opponents.

“Marcus and Jamal are so versatile with all the things that they can do,” Gase said.

“Now, all of a sudden you got three guys that can do the same thing, where they’re all moving all over the place. It makes it difficult for an offense to kind of know what’s going on. For us to have the ability to be able to do that… How much we do it, time will tell,” Gase said per the Daily News.

While the talks to have Maye shipped have increased, one source has spoken about the rumor. As reported by Mike Florio of NBC Sports, the source said the news was not true.

“Beyond fake news,” the source shared.

The Jets are in an interesting predicament, as the 2020 season will put Maye in the free-agent market with teams possibly interested in the talented former All-American. There is an option to trade Maye now for additional assets given that the rookie safety and return specialist Davis is coming into the picture for the Jets.

After failing to qualify for the playoffs in last year’s season with a 7-9 record, the Jets are looking to bounce back stronger than ever. The team placed third in the AFC East with only Adams as their Pro-Bowler.

It will be interesting to see how the Jets will deal with Maye and the trade rumors that have been speculating around the team.
