NFL Rumors: Odell Beckham Traded To The Browns? What Do Giants Get In Return?
In an offseason of big deals, the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns on Tuesday appear to have come up with a blockbuster one.
According to ESPN's NFL insider Adam Schefter and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, a deal is in place that would send Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns for a first-round pick (No. 17 overall), a third-round pick (95th overall) and young safety Jabrill Peppers.
Beckham reportedly told ESPN "wow" when he learned of the trade.
The 26-year-old is considered one of the best receiver in the NFL, though he only played in 16 total games over the past two seasons. The trade shows a serious commitment by Cleveland to compete in the AFC North after failing to reach the playoffs since 2002. Beckham, who is signed through the 2023 season, has a base salary of $16.8 million in 2019 and $14 million in 2020.
The trade also means rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield will enter his second season with a top target.
For the Giants, the trade means a possible rebuild through the draft. The Giants may be looking to find a quarterback to eventually supplant aging starter Eli Manning, as well as a rookie defensive starter.
The Giants own the No. 6 overall pick and before the trade deadline picked up the New Orleans Saints' fourth-round and seventh-round pick for Eli Apple. New York also acquired a fifth-round pick after trading defensive tackle Damon Harrison.
Peppers, a New Jersey native, is 23 years old and a former first-round pick. He is expected to be a starter after the departure of Landon Collins.
