- Baylor's Denzel Mims is considered a wild card selection this year
- Several teams such as the Eagles, Vikings and Broncos have drawn interest for Mims
In the upcoming NFL draft, the Baylor Bears star Denzel Mims is said to be the biggest wild card of the class. It is rumored that several teams including the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos are interested in the wide receiver.
In the 2019 college season, Mims was able to tally 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns. The six-foot-three star is scouted to make incredible catches with his elite athleticism and incredible route running techniques. The ball skills he posses coupled with his savvy movement on the field gives him an advantage entering the draft.
In addition to these, Mims also showed out in the draft combine where he showed promise in front of NFL teams. In the 40-yard dash, he was able to secure a time of 4.38 seconds. This was good enough to be within the top five in all of the prospects in the event. In addition, his three-cone drill was impressive with a marking of 6.66 seconds.
With the draft looming near, teams are looking forward to getting the opportunity to get Mims. It is speculated that the Eagles are in touch with him per 94 WIP Radio.
"I've talked to the Eagles a lot," Mims said. "I talked to them like four times last week. Four or five times last week," he added by way of Bleacher Report.
Another possible selection is the Vikings who select right after the Eagles. Per The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, Mims has elevated himself as a top-25 caliber prospect in the draft.
"With the first-rounder, they received from Buffalo in the Stefon Diggs trade, the Vikings might turn around and add his replacement at receiver," Brugler said.
It will be hard to pass up a player of Mims’ potential and the Broncos have a chance of selecting him with the 15th pick. Per Broncos Wire, Denver has also been in contact with Mims via a pre-draft video call.
The draft features several wide receivers and Mims might not be the first one selected. Regardless of this, whether he’s selected mid to late in the first round, he is still one player to look out for in years to come.
