KEY POINTS

  • Devonta Freeman is one of the league's more talented running backs
  • As a member of the Atlanta Falcons, Freeman led the league in rushing touchdowns back in 2015
  • The Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets are reportedly interested in signing Freeman

An elite running back like Devonta Freeman is a big boost to any team in the NFL. With rumors circulating, it is speculated that the Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets are among the interested teams for Freeman.

Among all of these organizations, the Seahawks are the most aggressive in getting Freeman as they have reportedly already offered the 28-year-old a contract. It is said to be a one-year deal worth $4 million, according to NFL Network’s Michael Silver.

With the other teams are keeping their eyes on Freeman, it’ll be crucial to see how negotiations pan out. If Freeman ends up with the Eagles, this gives Philadelphia additional firepower to match up in the NFC East. Given that their rival in the division is the newly improved Dallas Cowboys, the presence of a former Pro-Bowler like Freeman can stir up the rankings.

For the New York Jets, having Freeman puts them in a position to bounce back from their 7-9 record in 2019. The Jets were unable to qualify in the playoffs last year and are looking to further improve in the coming season. Having Freeman in their squad can complement their running backs Le’Veon Bell and La’Mical Perine.

Having Freeman in one’s roster can serve as a big help to any squad on the field. The former second-team All-Pro has accomplished a lot in the league and proves to be a significant addition to any team’s offense.

As a member of the Atlanta Falcons, Freeman was the NFL’s rushing touchdown leader in 2015. While he suffered a knee injury back in 2018, the former first-team All-ACC athlete was able to bounce back briefly the following year and tallied 656 rushing yards accompanied by 59 receptions.

The season continues to be on hold, as the threat of the coronavirus remains to loom across the world. The league has already made progress in the recent weeks in allowing employees to return to their office facilities. But while the situation remains uncertain, it will be interesting to monitor where the remaining big names will end up for the coming season.
