NFL Trade Rumors: Undefeated 49ers Not Closing Door On Getting Better
The San Francisco 49ers are one of two undefeated teams in the NFL as of this writing. Given that there are a lot of teams contemplating trades, it seems unlikely the 49ers will consider it. With a humming performance this season, it makes no sense to fix something that ain't broke. However, 49ers general manager John Lynch that the door is not entirely closed on potential deals.
However, it appears the level of interest by the 49ers is not as deep compared to other teams. Lynch said in an interview with KNBR that if ever they do, it has to make sense.
"I think Kyle said, 'It has to be smart.' Often times, the opportunities that present [themselves] in the media world on Twitter and all that, you make calls and those things aren't really available, or it doesn't make sense for our team because you're giving away too much," said Lynch.
True enough, adding another marquee player could be good or bad for the 49ers. A position that they could consider is a receiver. They have been linked to several big-name players but it does not seem to be a priority. A reason for this is San Francisco is not entirely reliant on the passing game. The 49ers have garnered more success from their rush game and defense, NBC Sports reported.
One of the things other teams are asking in return in trades is future first-round picks. Looking beyond this season, it is something that Lynch is likely not too keen on giving up. He admits that they do have a long-term vision but likely not at the expense of future picks.
Thus, NFL trades involving the 49ers may happen but at a certain level. This means that tweaks could be made but involving players who don't require much in return. This includes consideration in their current salary and the value they carry. It will not be limited to this season but future ones as well.
The 49ers are coming off a big win over the Cleveland Browns last Monday, 31-3. They will face the Los Angeles Rams next on Sunday starting at 4:05 p.m. EDT. They are slight underdogs mainly due to injuries to key players.
