NFL Update: Browns' Baker Mayfield Mocks Tom Brady Over 'Aliens' Joke
KEY POINTS
- Baker Mayfield recently claimed he and his wife had spotted a UFO over Texas
- Mayfield's UFO story got some of the biggest names in the NFL talking, including Tom Brady
- The Browns quarterback had an epic response to Brady's comments
Tom Brady got roasted by his fellow NFL star quarterback Baker Mayfield, whose UFO story recently had the sport buzzing on social media.
Mayfield’s bizarre UFO sighting claim Thursday grabbed the attention of not only fans but also the NFL. Backed by his wife Emily, the Cleveland Browns QB tweeted that he’s “almost 100%” sure that the “very bright ball of light ” they saw in the sky in Texas was a UFO.
Famed Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd, who is a known critic of Mayfield, took a dig at the Browns quarterback, suggesting NFL stars such as Brady didn’t need to see a UFO to become an all-time great.
“He went out with his beautiful wife, I’m sure they had margaritas, Austin, Texas is a fun town,” Cowherd said on “The Herd.” “Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw & Tom Brady have never seen aliens. I would prefer my guys don't talk about it."
Suggesting that he too may have already seen an alien or some UFO in the past, Brady joked, “How do you know I’ve never seen aliens Colin?”
Mayfield, 25, then poked fun at Brady, 43, saying, “At your age you’ve probably seen a bunch.”
Surprisingly, Mayfield didn’t fire back at Cowherd despite the sports media personality’s subtle jab at his UFO sighting claim.
Mayfield and Cowherd have bad blood that dates back to the former’s early years in the NFL.
In 2019, the pair had an infamous war of words, with Mayfield accusing Cowherd of constantly putting out “irrational opinions” instead of facts.
“He’s supposed to bring out facts and he chooses to put out irrational opinions,” Mayfield said of Cowherd in 2019. “People can say what they want, they can say I’m not really supposed to comment on this, but a liar is a liar and a guy that is really just full of it needs to be put in his place.”
To his defense, Cowherd insisted that he made a name for himself in the industry because of his credible work.
“Well, in fairness, I don’t think I would build a 20-year career based on irrational opinions,” Cowherd responded to Mayfield’s claim. “Does Charles Barkley have irrational opinions saying he thinks the Portland Trail Blazers are going to win the NBA championship or is Charles Barkley a wildly funny, entertaining opinionist on an NBA show? He is and so am I. This is not big J journalism. I’m not in locker rooms 100 nights a year.”
