NFL Week 16 Picks Against The Spread 2017: Predictions ATS, Updated Odds
Week 16 is one of the most important of the 2017 NFL season, but that doesn’t mean there are a ton of good games on the schedule. Even with playoff spots on the line, nearly half of the contests feature betting lines of more than eight points. No team is favored by less than a field goal.
Below are picks against the spread for every game in Week 16, as well as updated betting odds at Las Vegas and online sportsbooks. Betting lines and trends are courtesy of OddsShark.
Indianapolis Colts (+13.5) at Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore could win this one easily, but it’s hard to lay close to two touchdowns with a team that has Joe Flacco as their quarterback. The Colts have lost by 14 points just once in their last seven games.
Prediction ATS: Indianapolis
Minnesota Vikings (-9) at Green Bay Packers
Green Bay has absolutely nothing to play for, and they are once again turning to the quarterback that ranks 29th in passer rating. Minnesota defeated the Packers by 13 points when Aaron Rodgers got hurt two months ago, and they need to win Saturday’s game in their quest to secure a first-round playoff bye.
Prediction ATS: Green Bay
Detroit Lions (-5) at Cincinnati Bengals
Have the Bengals quit on the season? They’ve certainly played that way in the last two weeks with losses by 26 and 27 points. The Lions have taken care of business in games they should win, going 7-0 against teams that are currently out of the playoff race. Five of those victories came by double digits.
Prediction ATS: Detroit
Los Angeles Rams (-6.5) at Tennessee Titans
It’s kind of amazing that Tennessee has held a playoff spot for this long. The Titans simply aren’t a good team, and the Rams tend to blow out subpar competition. L.A. is 6-1 against teams that are out of playoff contention, and those wins have come by an average of nearly 25 points.
Prediction ATS: Los Angeles
Los Angeles Chargers (-6.5) at New York Jets
This is the Jets’ team that most everyone thought would show up in 2017. New York has been outscored 51-19 in two straight losses, and they have just two wins in their last nine games. Things won’t get easier with Bryce Petty under center against a Chargers’ team that’s fighting for their playoff lives.
Prediction ATS: Los Angeles
Miami Dolphins (+10) at Kansas City Chiefs
Don’t let Kansas City’s big win over L.A. make you forget how poorly the Chiefs have played in the second half of the season. They were upset by both the Bills and Jets in recent weeks, and losing to another AFC East opponent isn’t out of the question.
Prediction ATS: Miami
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+10) at Carolina Panthers
The Giants are the only team that’s been more disappointing than the Bucs this season, and they might not be very competitive against a team that’s trying to clinch a playoff berth. Jameis Winston’s propensity to make mistakes won’t serve him well against one of the NFC’s best defenses. Tampa Bay has covered the spread just once in their last eight road games.
Prediction ATS: Carolina
Denver Broncos (+3.5) at Washington Redskins
There’s really no reason to watch this game with both teams out of the playoff hunt. Washington has the edge with the much better quarterback at home.
Prediction ATS: Washington
Atlanta Falcons (+5.5) at New Orleans Saints
The Falcons managed to beat the Saints two weeks ago in spite of three Matt Ryan interceptions. New Orleans isn’t 2.5 points better than Atlanta on a neutral field like the betting line indicates. The Falcons have a real chance to upset the Saints and clinch the NFC South title next week.
Prediction ATS: Atlanta
Buffalo Bills (+11.5) at New England Patriots
Anything less than a 14-point spread probably makes New England the right pick here. The Patriots need a win to maintain the AFC’s No.1 seed, and they’ll be playing a team that they’ve beaten 22 times in their last 25 tries. New England won in Buffalo by 20 points three weeks ago, and the Patriots are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games.
Prediction ATS: New England
Cleveland Browns (+6.5) at Chicago Bears
This is one of the few times that it actually makes sense to pick the Browns. In a battle of two teams that score fewer than 17 points per game, getting more than six points makes Cleveland worth a bet.
Prediction ATS: Cleveland
Jacksonville Jaguars (-4.5) at San Francisco 49ers
This clearly isn’t the same 49ers' team that went winless in the first half of the season. Jimmy Garoppolo looks like the real deal, posting a 98.0 passer rating without many weapons in San Francisco. The quarterback still hasn’t lost against the spread as a starter.
Prediction ATS: San Francisco
Seattle Seahawks (+5) at Dallas Cowboys
With two key members of the “Legion of Boom” done for the season, Seattle clearly isn’t a playoff team. Dallas is doing their best to make a playoff push, and getting their best player back in Week 16 is only going to help. The combination of Ezekiel Elliott’s return and the Seahawks’ defensive struggles could result in one of Dak Prescott’s best performances of 2017.
Prediction ATS: Dallas
New York Giants (+3.5) at Arizona Cardinals
The Giants have been competitive since Ben McAdoo’s firing, nearly stealing a game against the Eagles last week. New York actually has the quarterback advantage in this one, and they’ve covered the spread in four of their last six road games.
Prediction ATS: New York
Pittsburgh Steelers (-8.5) at Houston Texans
The absence of Antonio Brown and Ryan Shazier would’ve made it hard to pick the Steelers when they were 10-point favorites. With the betting line moving to single digits, Pittsburgh is the smart play. Houston has scored 16 points or fewer seven of the eight games that Deshaun Watson hasn’t started.
Prediction ATS: Pittsburgh
Oakland Raiders (+9) at Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia has yet to miss a beat offensively with Nick Foles under center. Defensively, however, the Eagles have struggled in recent weeks. Opponents have taken advantage of Philadelphia’s secondary, averaging 29.3 points over the last three games. Oakland can certainly keep this one within single digits.
Prediction ATS: Oakland
