Amanda Kloots got emotional when she welcomed the new year as she continues to mourn the death of her husband, Nick Cordero, who succumbed to COVID-19 complications in July.
On Saturday, Kloots took to Instagram Stories to share an emotional post, in which she admitted that celebrating Christmas and New Year's had been very difficult following her husband's passing.
"New Years has been tough, extremely hard for me. I've cried more recently than in awhile. I thought Christmas would be hard, this was worse," she wrote, Entertainment Tonight reported.
"I think it's because when the new year comes you want a clean slate or to forget about last year, esp 2020. But, I can't forget about last year and will not be able to wipe that slate clean," she continued. "I also think I am slightly scared of what can happen in a year, how much things can change. Lastly, I think everything I went through is finally catching up to me and I am finally ready to go to therapy to address the trauma."
Kloots went on to say that she got candid with her followers in order to be transparent about grief and loss, including how they ebb, flow and change a person.
"How it's a journey, not just a week. How it's a continued struggle even as I stay positive and active. How you can cry some days for two seconds or for two hours. How it makes you feel so lonely and confused," she added. "Being honest, acknowledging all of this instead of hiding it has helped me. I hope it helps you."
Kloot's late husband spent the last months of his life in the hospital after suffering multiple health complications due to COVID-19. Cordero passed away on July 5.
In September, Kloots spoke about saying goodbye and said she wanted the Broadway actor's memorial "to be a celebration that makes people smile." She added that her husband wanted his life to be remembered in a beautiful way because he felt so blessed when he was still alive.
"I love my husband so much, and I'm so proud of the fight that he did that I watched, every single day, as he fought for his life," she said. "I will miss you every single day sweetheart. I love you so much. Thank you for leaving us with your music."
