Nicki Minaj took a swipe at Jesy Nelson’s Little Mix bandmates amid their “black fishing” accusations against the artist. Her rant against her collaborator’s former bandmates comes just days after the release of their new song, “Boyz,” on Oct. 7.
On Monday, TikToker NoHun shared an unverified screenshot of Little Mix member Leigh-Anne Pinnock seemingly taking a jab at Nelson in his Instagram DMs. The messages seemed to show Pinnock calling Nelson a “horrible” person. The screenshots also showed Pinnock asking NoHun to make a TikTok video about Nelson being a “black fish,” which refers to someone pretending to be Black when they are not.
In an Instagram Live she hosted with Nelson on Oct. 11, Minaj weighed in on the viral screenshots. During their live video, Minaj suggested that Nelson’s former bandmates should be supporting her, who left the group in 2020. She also appeared to call out the members of Little Mix for saying “evil things” out of “jealousy.”
“Sweetheart, take them text messages and shove it up your f**king ass,” she said. “Let her enjoy this time. If you were in this woman’s group and you ain’t talk about this s**t for 10 years, and as soon as you see she’s got a video coming out with Nicki Minaj, print them text messages out, bust your ass open and shove it up your mother***ing ass. OK? And stop trying to hurt people and kill people’s lives and career,” she continued.
She also suggested that the Little Mix ladies were simply jealous of Nelson’s career, saying, “If you want a solo career, baby girl, just say that.”
“You can go out and put on your own music. We’re gonna support you and love you. That’s it,” she said, adding that they don’t have to attack Nelson.
“Now all of a sudden she’s not in a video with you, you have some negative, evil thing to do and say? Stop,” she added.
In an interview with Vulture on Oct. 8, Nelson addressed the black fishing accusations against her. She told the outlet she was “very aware” she’s a white, British woman and that she never said she wasn’t.
“The whole time I was in Little Mix I never got any of that. And then I came out of the band and people all of a sudden were saying it,” she told Vulture.
