Nicolas Cage: Bystanders comment on his arrest in New Orleans
Nicolas Cage was arrested and charged with domestic abuse and disturbing the peace in New Orleans over the weekend.
The 47-year-old actor is in town filming a movie. He was arrested after arguing with his wife, Alice Kim, according to the New Orleans Police Department.
He was running around and screaming in the street, a bartender at Harry's Corner in New Orleans told People.com
According to a report by People.com, the couple was fighting over which house they were renting in the French Quarter.
Apparently he had mistaken the house of my neighbors for the other house up the block that he is actually renting, said Peter Bennett, a local street performer who lives near the property.
His wife was trying to persuade him from disturbing the elderly couple who do in fact live in that house.
Cage and his wife were standing in front of a residence that he insisted was the property the couple was renting. She disagreed, and Cage grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her to what he believed was the correct address. There were no visible signs of injury on his wife's arm, the New Orleans Police Department said in a statement.
People.com is also reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, also known as Dog the Bounty Hunter helped Cage by posting his $11,000 bond.
I am a truly dedicated fan of Mr. Cage and will not be granting any interviews about my client as I wish to respect his privacy, Chapman told E! News in a statement.
The actor then began striking vehicles and later attempted to get into a taxi. At that point, an officer who had been flagged down by onlookers drove up on the couple, immediately observed that Cage was heavily intoxicated and ordered him out of the cab, which prompted Cage to start yelling. The officers subsequently took Cage to Central Lock-up, NOPD said in a statement.
Cage is scheduled to appear in court on May 31.
