The fallout continued this week for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who told a crowd on Sunday that Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock should be deported.
Warnock is a U.S. citizen and was born in Savannah, Georgia.
"I am the daughter of Indian immigrants," Haley said at rally for Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker. "They came here legally, they put in the time, they put in the price, they are offended by what's happening on [the southern U.S.] border.
Haley added that "legal immigrants are more patriotic than the leftists these days."
"They knew they worked to come into America, and they love America. They want the laws followed in America, so the only person we need to make sure we deport is Warnock," she told the crowd in Hiram, Georgia.
Haley, a former U.N. ambassador to the United Nations, did not say where Warnock could be deported.
Many on social media called out the perceived hypocrisy of Haley, who was born Nimrata Randhawa to immigrant Indian Punjabi Sikh parents.
Warnock, a Democrat, is looking to stave off a challenge from Walker. Many polls show the race is close ahead of Tuesday's vote.
"This is beyond the pale," Warnock said in response to Haley's comments. "This is the kind of ugly and divisive language that is not helpful to any of us -- to Democrats, Republicans, independents or moderates. This language is completely unhelpful."
Haley, who is a potential Republican nominee for president in 2024, has faced a barrage of criticism on Twitter.
Haley has not address her comments about Warnock as of Tuesday. She did not post video of her speech on her Twitter page.
