Nikki Reed's Wedding Dress Designer Discusses How Ian Somerhalder Played A Part In The Design Process
Fashion designer Claire Pettibone is finally discussing what went into creating Nikki Reed’s wedding gown. Reed wed actor Ian Somerhalder in a private ceremony April 26.
According to Pettibone, Reed “really kept Ian in mind” when designing her gown. People magazine reports the 26-year-old actress added details she knew her groom would like, including the “low, sexy back.” Pettibone told the magazine the couple would call or text each other during each of her three fittings.
“He was so excited for his bride, and called or texted her during every fitting!” she shared. “She wouldn’t tell him any details, because she wanted him to be surprised on the big day.”
While much of the dress’ design was based on Reed’s suggestions, Pettibone said it was truly a team effort. She said working with Reed was “effortless” as the “Twilight” star was really drawn to her ideas.
“My design aesthetic was a great fit for the vibe Nikki wanted for her wedding day with Ian: a little boho, romantic and timeless, with a sexy [twist],” she said. “She was so happy with what we had originally decided on, that we really didn’t make any changes at all.”
Reed and Somerhalder started dating in July 2014. Six months later the pair were rumored to be engaged after the “Vampire Diaries” star was spotted purchasing a ring at Neil Lane.
