Nina Dobrev Sets Record Straight About Ex-Boyfriend Ian Somerhalder’s Marriage To Nikki Reid
When Nina Dobrev, star of the teen drama series "The Vampire Diaries," announced that she was leaving the CW network show, fans immediately thought it was because her ex-boyfriend and co-star, Ian Somerhalder, married "Twilight" star Nikki Reid last month.
Dobrev and Somerhalder broke up in 2013 after more than three years of dating. In January, Somerhalder got engaged to Reid after only six months of dating. The couple tied the knot last month at the Tuscali Mountain Inn in Topanga, California.
In an exclusive interview with E! News on Tuesday, Dobrev set the record straight, saying that her breakup with the actor in 2013 was not the reason why she was leaving show. She further stated that their breakup wasn’t because anything bad happened or that there wasn’t love or friendship. "I love him and the friendship is still strong and I think he's great and I care about him. And that didn't change. Yes, we're professional and that's fine. We were friends long before we dated and we still are now," the 26-year-old actress said.
Dobrev said Ian and Nikki’s wedding was beautiful, and she was happy because the newlyweds looked happy. “The drama is in the media, it's not with us," she said.
She also said that because they starred on a teen drama show, some fans expected drama from their personal lives as well. She added that if there’s no drama, then there’s nothing to write about.
Dobrev announced in April via Instagram that she won’t join Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries." The show’s executive producer, Julie Plec, shared her thoughts about Dobrev’s departure when she spoke with Entertainment Weekly earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Dobrev’s final episode of "The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursday. The actress told Self magazine earlier this week that she’s already looking forward to the future and is excited for what lies ahead.
