  • Nintendo announced the final major "Super Mario Maker 2" content update for the Switch
  • Players will be able to make miniature "Mario" games with the new World Maker mode
  • Additional enemies, course parts, other features will be included when update launches

Nintendo is bringing the final major content update to its wildly popular Switch title "Super Mario Maker 2."

The game, which allows players to piece together their own "Mario" levels, is expected to get the latest update as of April 22. When available, it will add the new, surprise World Maker mode, which will finally allow players to make their own miniature "Super Mario" games.

World Maker mode lets players string together multiple courses they've created in "Super Mario Maker 2" via the central path from a starting point on a custom world map. It will end in a castle, which is the final level. The world map can be customized with a variety of different icons. Up to eight worlds can be combined, which players can then share as a standalone "Super Mario" title with others online.

World Maker isn't the only addition with the update, however. It will also add the evil Koopalings, all seven of them, with different movement patterns. A selection of other enemies such as Mechakoopas and the key-chasing Phantom will be added to the game for a special challenge as well.

The free update will also add the "Super Mario Bros. 2" Mushroom, which will transform Mario and friends into their counterparts from "Super Mario Bros. 2" and allow them to pick up and throw items. The Frog Suit from "Super Mario Bros. 3" will let Mario swim through the water. There's also the Power Balloon from "Super Mario World," the Boomerang Flower from "Super Mario 3D World," and the Super Acorn from "New Super Mario Bros. U."

Finally, there will be five different variations on wearable items like the Propeller Box and Cannon Box from "Super Mario 3D World." This is a massive amount of new content for the game, and the World Maker mode is certainly reason enough for players to return to the game after having been gone for a while.

"Super Mario Maker 2" is available on Nintendo Switch, while the original game that started it all is only available on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. There's been no word of a potential port to the Switch to gather both games in one place.
