Nintendo Game Boy-Inspired Super Retro Boy Showcased At CES 2017
Like every year, tech companies showcased their wares at the Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas. As the show was winding up, an interesting new device was showcased — the Super Retro Boy is a Nintendo Game Boy-inspired handheld gaming console made by Retro-bit.
Retro-bit specializes in remakes of classic gaming consoles. It is not a straight design copy of the original Game Boy but it can play original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges.
The Super Retro Boy is basically an improved version of the Game Boy — it has better battery life, a backlit display and will come with a 10-in-1 (10 games in one) cartridge. The company claims that the device can last 10 hours on a single charge.
The Super Retro Boy looks similar in size and shape to the Game Boy — it has a large screen, followed by physical and a gaming pad.
The CES device is a prototype — an improved version is expected to hit the shelves in August with a price tag of $79.99.
Remakes of classic gaming consoles are doing well and Nintendo’s own NES Classic Edition is an example of that as the device has been running sold out since its launch.
