  • Nintendo is scheduled to release a new Switch model on Oct. 8
  • Dubbed as Switch OLED, it is an upgraded version of the standard hybrid console
  • Nintendo also shot down rumors about Switch Pro

Speculations about the supposed Nintendo Switch Pro have been rife online since 2019, with a Bloomberg report now claiming that the Japanese gaming juggernaut already provided 4K capable dev kits to gaming studios. While many fans are delighted about the reported development, Nintendo offered an official response to the news.

In an official statement Thursday, Nintendo disputed Bloomberg's report on developers having access to a 4K capable Nintendo Switch dev kit. The Japanese gaming giant also insisted it has no plans for another model aside from the soon-to-release Switch OLED.

"A news report on Sept. 30, 2021(JST) falsely claims that Nintendo is supplying tools to drive game development for a Nintendo Switch with 4K support," Nintendo said in a tweet. "To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to clarify that this report is not true," the company stated.

"We also want to restate that, as we announced in July, we have no plans for any new model other than Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, which will launch on October 8, 2021," Nintendo said in a follow-up tweet.

The company's unexpected release of an official statement came out following Bloomberg’s report which caught fans' attention.

The business and market news platform reported that Nintendo “sent out kits to game developers requesting them to create games that support higher resolution titles.” The report also said that 11 game companies from all over the world are working on 4K games using a software toolkit provided by Nintendo.

"Employees at 11 game companies said their teams were in possession of Nintendo’s 4K development kit for the Switch," Bloomberg revealed Wednesday.

"The companies span the globe, ranging from large publishers to small studios and include at least one that has never made a console game before, Zynga Inc., according to the employees, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to discuss their projects publicly," it said.

Moreover, the report said the Switch model capable of running 4K games, presumably the Switch Pro, would be released in the late part of next year. It is worth noting that Bloomberg accurately leaked information about the Switch, including the OLED model over the past months.

Since Nintendo disputed the report's claim, fans should therefore temper their expectations about the supposed Switch Pro.
