'No Man's Sky' Introduces Cross-Play Gaming For Xbox, PS4, PC
KEY POINTS
- Hello Games updated "No Man's Sky" with cross-play features starting Thursday
- Xbox One, PS4 and PC gamers can now play "No Man's Sky" together online
- "No Man's Sky" will also be available on Xbox One Game Pass and on PC starting Thursday
Hello Games made true to its promise when it announced that “No Man's Sky” will be coming to Xbox Game Pass. Accordingly, the space exploration/survival game will also grace PC's Game Pass as the indie studio based in Guildford, England is set to release the Windows version of the title on Thursday.
The Xbox Game Pass inclusion was first reported via Xbox Wire, saying that over 10 million Game Pass members will soon be able to play the “infinite, procedurally-generated” world of “No Man's Sky.”
But Hello Games isn't done just yet. It said via the game's official website that they're still “busily working on something else” in the past few months. They went on to ask if current players of “No Man's Sky” have friends who are playing the game on another gaming system and if they wanted them to join and explore the great unknown.
Starting Thursday, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC players will now be able to “explore, journey, survive, build and trade” together as “No Man's Sky” opens new possibilities through cross-platform multiplayer. Kotaku said that aside from players taking on missions together, areas with random multiplayer interactions will also draw players from all platforms.
Ambient multiplayers on the Space Anomaly, in space or on planets can now match a player from any platform, while those who are playing on a certain platform can identify others through a controller icon.
The new update also fixed some bugs that will allow for more fluid gameplay. Among others, Hello Games fixed controller vibrations and camera shake, VR issues, audio and visual improvements, chat options and multiplayer tweaks.
IGN noted that Hello Games also teased an “eventful summer,” making this update one of the many in the near future.
“A tremendous amount of work has gone into this update and the underlying technology and systems. We've moved to an entirely new networking architecture, with more flexibility for the future, allowing players to play together regardless of the platform.
“I'm very proud of the team that has worked so hard to make this happen,” said Hello Games co-founder and Managing Director Sean Murray.
