Nokia 1 Plus Rumors: Nokia Budget Phone Gets OS Upgrade In Major Countries
KEY POINTS
- Nokia 1 Plus starts getting Android 10 update
- Nokia 1 Plus Android 10 update available only in select areas
- Android 10 features may not all be applicable to Nokia 1 Plus
The latest Android operating system updates are normally reserved for a select few devices, mostly the expensive and latest ones in the market. But in the case of Nokia, all phones should get that privilege, even the cheap ones. HMD Global made good on that promise and released the Android 10 update to its budget-friendly phone, the Nokia 1 Plus.
The Android 10 update has rolled out to select areas and some have already downloaded it. For those who own a Nokia 1 Plus but have not been urged to download the latest Android OS, don't fret. It will be rolling out in increments. HMD announced that half of the Nokia 1 users in select regions will receive the update by May 2. The rest will get their turn on May 4.
The counties which will be receiving the Android 10 Go Edition update include Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, UAE, and Yemen, Phone Arena reported.
This development aligns with the promise made by HMD Global two months ago. At the time, they announced that fourteen Nokia smartphones will be upgraded to Android 10 by the end of the second quarter of 2020. Most have already received their operating system update with others expected to follow in the coming weeks.
As mentioned earlier, some companies select the phones that would be eligible for an OS update. But the case of Nokia is a bit different. Considering that the Nokia 1 Plus is one of the cheapest phones to get in emerging markets, the number of people owning them are likely to be plenty.
For those who may not be aware, there are great features to expect from Android 10 although there could be some not applicable to the Nokia 1 Plus. Originally launched in September, the improvements include a dark mode to help in improving battery life, live caption features, gesture navigation, WiFi and QR codes, Undo app removal, location control, and a dedicated privacy section in the settings app.
But the most important of all is seeing the Nokia 1 Plus spared from bugs the previous Android operating system may have brought. But like most operating systems, expect new ones to crop up. So far, none have been reported.
