Nokia’s upcoming 5.5-inch Android smartphone, the Nokia 6, has now received certification from the Federal Communications Commission as it nears its launch in the United States. The device is already available in some parts of the world, but it is hasn’t officially launched stateside.

The Nokia 6’s FCC certification was spotted online with a model number TA-1025. Since the handset has already received FCC approval, the Nokia 6’s arrival in the U.S. is now considered imminent. However, HMD Global, the company that owns the Nokia brand and the one that manufactures its phones, has remained quiet on the device’s exact release date in the country. The device has a U.K. price tag of £229.99, which should bring its price to around US$297, according to Phone Arena.

The Nokia 6 was first revealed back in February during the Mobile World Congress. At the time, HMD Global said that it was planning to release the handset globally. The popular rumor going around right now is that the Nokia 6 might be released next month in June. A U.K. retailer’s website recently revealed that the new Nokia 3310 would arrive in mid-June, according to a report from Metro. This adds fuel to the rumor that the Nokia 6 might be released around that same time.

Nokia has been more calculated when it comes to releasing its new phones in the U.S. Although it also revealed the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 smartphones at MWC 2017 in February, the Nokia 6 appears to be the first of the trio to arrive in the country, as pointed out by Android Headlines. With the Nokia 6 receiving FCC certification, it does look like its close to finally being released in the U.S.

The Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a 1080p full HD screen resolution. The device is powered by a mid-range octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of storage and a 3,000 mAh battery with fast charging support. It also features a microSD card slot that supports cards with up to 256GB storage space.

As for optics, on the back of the Nokia 6 is a 16-megapixel camera that’s able to shoot full HD 1080p videos at 30 frames per second. The front-facing shooter comes with an 8-megapixel sensor. Other features include a hybrid dual-SIM tray, active noise cancelling 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers, GPS, microUSB 2.0 and a front-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Overall, the device isn’t really a powerhouse smartphone, but it does seem like a device fit for users who consume a lot of video content. Another perk of getting the Nokia 6 is that it will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat straight out of the box, and HMD Global is committed to bringing software updates to it as soon as possible.

“Most of the smartphones in the market do not have the Android OS in the way it should be. Vendors are adding a skin on top of the OS,” HMD Global’s VP for Middle East and North Africa, Per Ekman said. “Consumers have the right to have the latest version of the OS and we will be pushing the latest version and the patches as soon as it is available from Google.”
