Nordstrom Ivanka Trump Latest Update: Retailer Is Most Favored Among Consumers

Despite President Donald Trump’s public comments chastising Nordstrom for dropping Ivanka Trump’s clothing line, the U.S. retailer was still ranking as one of the most favored department stores, WWD reported Thursday.

For a fifth consecutive year, Nordstrom came in as the most favored fashion retailer in the country, a recently released survey from revealed.

The annual study surveyed people in four census regions in the U.S., or about 10,714 adults in total. Market Force Information conducted the survey in December, according to WWD.

Nordstrom stores’ ambiance and service were credited in part for helping to drive survey respondents' decisions. Following behind Nordstrom, Dillard’s ranked as the second favorite and TJ Maxx ranked third.

Customer service and sales associate assistance ranked as one of the most important factors for consumers.

“The research shows that 90 percent of customers who were assisted by a sales associate bought something,” the chief strategy officers for Market Force Information, Cheryl Flink, said via WWD. “when customers were not assisted, only 82 percent made a purchase. That eight percent difference in conversion rate is a key reason why fashion retailers need to invest in their sales staff.”

Nordstrom’s star status among the surveyed consumers followed a recent Trump comment that targeted the retailer for dropping his daughter's fashion line.

“My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by Nordstrom. She is a great person – always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” Trump had tweeted out Wednesday.

Nordstrom dropped the first daughter's fashion line last week, citing that poor sales were to blame. Soon thereafter, TJ Maxx circulated a memo that asked store employees to diversify its stores’ Ivanka Trump merchandise and to throw out the branded signs, according to the Chicago Tribune. However, the retailer has continued to carry her line.
