Game developer Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed the ongoing rumors about its upcoming Battlefield 3 that an EA account will be required for console gamers while PC gamers will need to have EA’s downloadable store Origins in order to play the game.
The news was finally confirmed by EA’s Community Manager Daniel Matros, who said the rumors are actually true.
“@zh1nt0 wait wait wait so do we need an origin account to play bf3 on xbox?? & when will you be showing jet GAMEPLAY, not vid of real jet ;),” a Battlefield 3 fan, Alan Burton known as IrishBoyAlan on Twitter, asked Matros to confirm the news.
“@IrishBoyAlan That is on PC :). However, an EA account is required :),” Matros replied, confirming the news in the process.
Matros clarified that Origin will be required for the PC edition of the game and console users will still need to have an EA account to play.
EA has previously removed Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2 from Steam, and now Battlefield 3 will be the next in the line, according to a Geek report.
Battlefield 3 will feature the maximalist combined arms and will reintroduce features such as fighter jets and prone position. The game will feature maps set in Paris, Tehran, Sarajevo, Sulaymaniyah, New York, Wake Island and Oman and is set for an October release.
