KEY POINTS
- The Nuggets are favored to end a two-game losing streak when they host the Pelicans
- The Pelicans may suffer ninth-straight loss against the redemption-seeking Nuggets
- Jokic and Murray are expected to lead Nuggets anew against the unpredictable Pelicans
The Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans are reeling from their respective losing skids, but one will come to a halt on Tuesday, January 31 at the Ball Arena.
But between the two teams, a win would mean more to the Pelicans since they are on an eight-game losing skid. Their last loss was against the Milwaukee Bucks, 110-135.
On the other hand, Denver has dropped its last two assignments. Their last loss was at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers, 119-126.
The Pelicans could find no answer for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who dropped 50 points against them.
Jose Alvarado led the Pels in that loss with 18 points and six assists, while Jonas Valanciunas and Trey Murphy III added 16 markers each.
"I thought our effort was there," Pelicans coach Willie Green stated. "I thought we fought. It just wasn't enough tonight."
The Pelicans are averaging 115 points per contest and also own an offensive rating of 113.2.
New Orleans is also allowing opponents 113.5 points per game, 15th in the NBA right now.
The Nuggets, on the other hand, are still smarting from a 119-126 loss to the Sixers.
Nikola Jokic amassed 24 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds. Backing him up was Jamal Murray, who had 22 markers and six dimes for the night.
"We turned it over and they just turned up the pressure on us," Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. "They got to the basket way too easy with their attack mentality. And we just got way too careless with the basketball."
Denver is norming 116.5 points per game with an offensive rating of 117.4.
Moreover, the Nuggets are allowing opposing teams to score 112.7 points per match.
The Nuggets are installed as -7.5 favorites over the Pelicans, who are at +7.5.
Moreover, the moneyline set for this encounter is -340 for Denver and +267 for New Orleans.
The game will be televised over TNT at 10:00 PM ET with live streaming available via the NBA League Pass.
