  • Doctors offices and hospitals saw huge drops on inpatient visits from non-coronavirus patients
  • Experts said that many patients are scared to visit hospitals because of the fear of being infected
  • Doctors are now encouraging visits from non-coronavirus patients as the pandemic is lessening

A major health provider has emailed its patients urging them to visit doctors’ offices for important medical care amid the COVID-19 pandemic. An organization representing New York physicians has also been asking people to go to their doctors’ offices to have a checkup.

Massive Drops In-Patient Visits

In an email that NYU Langone Hospital sent to its patients, it urged patients not to risk their health by delaying important medical care. Their email emphasized that the hospital’s doctors are available for crucial in-person appointments, testing, and even surgeries. They also assured that these medical activities will be performed in “thoroughly cleaned and sanitized” areas.

According to the Medical Society of the State of New York, doctors’ offices and hospitals have experienced “massive drops in-patient visits” unrelated to coronavirus. The organization is an industry group for doctors in New York. They have also issued guidelines to their members, asking them to boost public confidence as the pandemic begins to slow down.

The group also said that with appropriate safety measures, a doctor’s office is among the safest places to go for a patient. The organization also said that all facilities had adopted broad safety protocols, which include managing the flow of patients, checking temperatures, and limiting visitations.

Wary Of Going To Doctors Offices

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many medical practices to cease some of their operations as people begin to get wary of visiting doctors’ offices. According to reports, most of these patients fear they might get the virus when they go to physicians’ offices.

The state Health Department has also asked hospitals to temporarily cease performing elective surgeries in light of the surging number of infections last month. They were asked to instead devote their resources in dealing with the huge wave of infected and usually very sick COVID-19 patients brought to their facilities.

Patients Refusing Medical Aid

In a report filed by The Post last month, it revealed the increasing number of patients refusing medical assistance provided by city EMS ambulance crews. According to reports, being taken to hospitals full of COVID-19 victims is one of the biggest fears of patients who refuse medical aid. They say they might get infected in the process.
