A reputed gang member in New York City is facing multiple charges after he allegedly raped a 70-year-old woman in a Bronx apartment building while he was on parole in late July.

Reginald Bellot, 28, allegedly grabbed the elderly victim from behind in the hallway of a Belmont apartment building at around 2 a.m. on July 27, the New York Daily News reported, citing police.

Bellot, a reported member of the Crips gang, allegedly pulled out a gun and forced the woman into a nearby stairwell, where he sexually assaulted and raped her, according to police.

The victim called authorities six days later, after taking a private ambulance to the BronxCare Health System for a medical check-up, police said.

Detectives were reportedly able to track Bellot's movements through surveillance camera footage, which helped them in identifying him.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) released footage of the suspect on Aug. 3 — the same day Bellot was detained in Mount Vernon on burglary and weapon possession charges. He has since been held without bail at the Westchester County Jail.

Police in the Bronx charged Bellot Tuesday with rape, strangulation, predatory sexual assault, criminal sex act, menacing and unlawful imprisonment. He is expected to be arraigned in Bronx criminal court.

Bellot had been released on parole in February after being sentenced in 2018 to one-and-a-half to six years in prison for attempted robbery and a prison contraband charge. He was also sentenced in 2015 to two years in jail for attempted burglary, according to public records.

A similar incident happened in California in June when a documented gang member out on felony probation was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted two women, one of whom was disabled.

Raul Christopher Alzaga, 28, was arrested in the city of Pomona on June 2 after he was accused of sexually assaulting two women in a Fontana, California, neighborhood two days earlier.

Alzaga had allegedly broken into a disabled elderly woman's home and forced his way into the victim's room, where he sexually assaulted her for hours. He allegedly entered another residence in the same block and sexually assaulted another woman, but he was driven off by a family member, police said.
